Experience as a Intern in Civil Engineering

One of the rules to graduate as a civil engineering student at Universiti Teknologi Malaysia (UTM) is going on an internship program. Therefore, I applied to a few companies as an intern in civil engineering, and one of them is China State Construction Engineering (M) Sdn. Bhd., and I got an offer from them. My empolyer offered me to intern in civil engineering at Project Lake City Phase 1, Jalan Sibu 100, Taman Wahyu, 68100 Kuala Lumpur as a main contractor company. After all considerations, I accepted their offer. Below are details about my internship experience:

Duration : July 2023 - October 2023 (3 months)
Working Hours : Monday - Saturday (8.00 a.m - 6.00 p.m)
Job scope:

Study the Structural and Architectural Drawings.
Do Inspection Works
Provide Project Quality Inspection Lot Acceptance Form and Architectural Works pictures as attachment.
Do Inspection of Plastering, and Tilings with IOW (Akipraktis Architecture).
Do Inspection of Cabinet, Door and Architrave Door with COW (Akipraktis Architecture) and SubContractor (PENA Builders Sdn. Bhd.).
Do Surveying Works with SubContractor (DR Y G TAN Jurutera Perunding Sdn. Bhd.).
Do the Door Measurement and Provide the List for Ordering Purposes.
Getting to know about the Application of Road Pavement.
Getting to know about Design Calculation for Tower Crane, Scaffolding, Placing Boom Model, Shoring System and Passenger Hoist Model.
Getting to know about New Technology being used at the Lake City Project.

With my Supervisor, Mr. Chan (Chief Engineer)

Mr. Chan is a chief engineer at Project Lake City Phase 1. He was my supervisor during my internship period. He taught me a lot of new things as a main contractor in Project Lake City Phase 1. He taught and showed me about pavement works carried out on site, and he also showed and taught me how to order particular stuff for site purposes. He also showed me about new technologies being used at site to reduce work load and time consuming. Along with him, there are a few engineers and technical staff who taught me about work flow as a main contractor. He also invited me to join company celebration. Thank you, Mr. Chan, for your knowledge and experience sharing.

With my Architect, Mr. James

Mr. James is an architect representing Akipraktis Architecture to monitor our work as the main contractor. He also taught me about architecture works related to civil engineering fields. He also taught me how to provide inspection forms, which are content evidence to be provided for our client, Lake City Sdn. Bhd.. Thank you, Mr. James, for your knowledge.

With my HR Executive and Site Admin, Ms. Amy

Ms. Amy is a HR Executive and Site Admin in China State Construction Engineering (M) Sdn. Bhd. at Project Lake City Phase 1. She offered me an internship with China State Construction Engineering (M) Sdn. Bhd. as an intern in civil engineering. She showed me how things work on site, especially for documentation purposes. With my Inspector of Works (IOW), Mr. Lee

Mr. Lee is an Inspector of Works (IOW) representing Akipraktis Architecture. He taught me a lot of new things regarding how inspection work is carried out and done on site. He also encouraged and taught me about QLASSIC and SHASSIC because they can start a company with them. Thank you, Mr. Lee, for sharing your experience.

With my Inspector of Works (IOW), Mr. Za'im

Mr. Za'im is an Inspector of Works (IOW) representing DR Y G Tan Jurutera Perunding Sdn. Bhd.. He taught me about surveying work carried out on site. He also gave me the opportunity to set up leveling staff on site and take the reading by myself, supervised by himself. Thank you, Mr. Za'im, for your knowledge.
